Job Overview
The Managing Director, Energy, Biomaterials, and Circularity (EBC) establishes and leads the overall program strategy, strategic objectives, develops and implements services, builds and trains staff, improves operational efficiencies, and establishes and meets P&L and profit objectives. Additionally, this role is responsible for securing and leading large, complex projects and delivering efficient and quality results to clients. The Managing Director establishes, maintains, and builds key client relationships and partnerships and oversees project staff and independent consultants to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Management

  • Set program strategy and goals around service offerings, talent acquisition, revenue, sales, and marketing
  • Oversee financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Develop targets and objectives for sales revenue and profit along with coordinating and implementing strategic plans to said targets
  • Review, approve, and sign (with support of internal counsel) all corporate agreements with clients, contractors, and vendors
  • Function as a representative of the Executive Leadership Team
  • Report weekly and quarterly on goals, targets, risks, opportunities, and overall performance regarding sales, finance, staffing, and strategic direction
  • Lead and communicate overall strategic direction to staff
  • Serve as a thought partner to the executive leader
  • Manage revenue, expense, operations, and marketing goals

Operation Management

  • Work across divisions to identify and support opportunities for collaboration across program areas and promote the ongoing innovation, creativity, evolution, refinement, and incubation of ideas, initiatives, approaches, and methodologies
  • Collaborate with the divisional sales and marketing teams to develop and execute an effective sales strategy
  • Prepare quarterly sales forecast and establish sales goals
  • Collect data using Salesforce CRM on new business pipeline to report during weekly sales meetings
  • Represent SCS in weekly sales meetings; collaborate with colleagues across all divisions to exchange information such as selling strategies and marketing intelligence
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of services and programs
  • Implement measures to maintain compliance and uphold the company's commitment to sustainability

Business Strategy and Development

  • Maintain and share current knowledge of market competition and industry trends
  • Actively seek new business opportunities to expand the client base and service offerings
  • Identify market trends, assess potential partnerships, and develop proposals to attract new clients
  • Represent the company at global and regional sustainability forums, conferences, and networking events to enhance visibility and engagement
  • Engage in strategic planning and market analysis; build a robust pipeline of prospects
  • Develop marketing strategies to enhance brand visibility and reputation including participation in industry events, networking with potential clients, and leveraging digital marketing channels to reach a broad audience
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to craft targeted strategies promoting the value of third-party certification for businesses and supply chains

Client Relations and Team Leadership

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on sustainability certifications, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices
  • Provide a customer-centric approach to ensure high client satisfaction
  • Recruit, train, and mentor a multidisciplinary team to build cohesion and high performance levels
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Set clear team objectives, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations to support professional growth and development

Program Quality and Development

  • Ensure rigorous quality assurance and compliance with internationally recognized sustainability and certification standards
  • Develop and implement project scopes that align with company goals, tracking timelines, budgets, and deliverables effectively
  • Track project timelines, budgets, and deliverables
  • Maintain and enhance quality management systems to uphold certification integrity
  • Drive operational improvements and efficiencies to enhance service delivery, client satisfaction, and company reputation in the industry

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, or related field or
  • Master's Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, or related field and
  • 4+ years of experience at a director level or above, managing staff, P&Ls, and budgets, and providing overall corporate leadership and strategy and
  • 10+ years of professional experience, including 4+ years leading and delivering complex projects to clients and overseeing staff and
  • 5+ years of corporate sales experience closing projects
  • Proficient in strategic planning and implementation; capable of setting long-term goals and developing strategies with a proactive and forward-thinking approach
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills capable of building and maintaining relationships with clients and stakeholders
  • Possess high level of integrity and ethical standards with a commitment to transparency and accountability
  • Strong problem-solving skills with initiative, good judgment, and ability to make sound decisions and work independently under pressure in a changing environment
  • Complete fluency in English with work experience that involves professional written communication (Advanced proficiency)
  • Proficient with business software including Outlook, Word, Excel, and database management (Advanced proficiency)
  • Passion for environmental stewardship and sustainable practices that align with the company's mission and values

Preferred Qualifications

  • Business proficiency in a major language other than English (Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic, etc.)

Working Remotely
SCS is recruiting all open roles to be remote; allowing our employees the ability to work flexibly and allowing SCS as a company to diversify the experience and perspectives of our growing workforce. This is a home-office based role and may include travel with local, domestic, and/or international trips. Details will be clarified during the recruitment process.

Estimated Annual Salary
$124,113.60 - $175,734.92
