84 Lumber’s Longstanding FSC® Certification Typifies the Company’s Commitment to Sustainability

Customers no longer view sustainable building materials as a specialty option. Rather, for many builders and homeowners, they’ve become mandatory. With a growing focus on environmentally-driven solutions that reduce the carbon footprint, protect ecosystems, and support workers and communities, 84 Lumber is reinventing its inventories to compete at the highest level.

84 Lumber’s Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) Chain of Custody certification (SCS-COC-001476) is key to this effort. This recognition positions 84 Lumber as a category leader, showcasing the company’s commitment to sustainable forestry to provide tangible and far-reaching social, environmental, and economic benefits.

“For us, providing sustainable building materials wasn’t a maybe, it was a must,” said 84 Lumber’s Chief Operating Officer Frank Cicero. “With the backing of our FSC certification, we’re able to confidently offer responsibly produced forest products to customers across the country.”

84 Lumber’s FSC Certification, first earned in 2009 based on audits conducted by SCS Global Services, the #1 FSC certification body in the US, and maintained through present day, has grown to include more than 20 percent of 84 Lumber’s stores nationally. Through its FSC certification, 84 Lumber has expanded its business and continues to develop its network across the country.  FSC certification applies to 84 Lumber’s lumber, plywood, panels and engineered wood products, veneers, and doors, among others.

“84 Lumber is one of our largest and oldest certificate holders. We’re proud of their attention to sustainability issues and their achievements,” said Sarah Harris, Managing Director of the Natural Resources Division at SCS Global Services. “Through its FSC Chain of Custody certification, 84 Lumber has demonstrated responsible sourcing and traceability of its wide array of products.”
